The Diclonius (Scientific Name: Homo Ex Machina; plural Diclonii), or originally Deiclonos, is the final product of the DEICLONOS Project, or God's Clone Project. They are an artificial modification of the human species, centered on the augmentation of the maximum potential in their Mind and Soul Components. Diclonii are primarily characterized by their innate ability to command vectors, more so than their vast mental capabilities. Though originally created in Phantasia, following GARNET's destruction only seven survivors manage to escape, often to the worlds including, but not limited to: Euthora, Mantua, and Terra.

Appearance

Diclonii are outwardly identical to humans, though it should be noted that, due to the controlled randomization of genetic algorithms used in their creation, these standards conform to those of Phantasian humans in general. Furthermore, their containment conditions give them two defining qualities: their light pale complexion due to the lack of exposure to natural sunlight (despite GARNET's underground complex attempting to magically replicate environmental parameters), and a serial number representing their "version" (i.e. the numerical order of finalization) imprinted below their left shoulder, aligned towards their arm, and usually color-coded depending on the individual.

Physiology

Diclonii are physiologically identical to humans.

Abilities

Vectors

Vectors are psychokinetic limbs that extend out of the upper spine, or more specifically, below the nape (of the neck) of a Diclonius. This location is purely referential in nature, as there exists no distinctive physiological trait that can be associated to the manifestation of vectors, such as an organ or bone. These limbs manifest as transparent, arm-shaped appendages that appear to distort the space they are occupying into the shape of the limb, and have been described multiple times as "ethereal", "illusory", between others.

Vectors are composed of a vast, yet highly compressed matrix of Radical Vibrations. Their overall resonance strength is, by default, so strong that they can affect the external world with ease, without requiring Psions (Thought Particles) or similar metaparticles usually associated with metaphysical phenomena. The Radicals refract and deviate wavelengths of light in erratic patterns, and are also sufficiently powerful to cause minor localized distortions of space, producing the aforementioned visual effect. Due to this, they are considered to be highly potent Psionic anomalies. It is thought to be impossible for outside factors, such as Psionic interference, to even plausibly manipulate vectors--the interference level required to do so would need to override the overlapping wavelengths of the chaotic Radicals, as well as bypass the highly-fluctuating catenae (Vibration Chains) of the vector.

However, manipulation by the Diclonius is extremely simple and nigh-effortless, thought to be similar to the mental input required to move an arm or a leg. Vectors are exceptionally versatile, capable of serving as powerful utility tools, or absolutely deathly weapons. There are numerous parameters that govern the Radicals of a vector, which define their psychokinetic state and properties. A Diclonius, through experience or practice, can modify these indices at will, the combination of which results in a wide variety of different properties and behavior such as intangibility, invisibility, deformation, hardness, sharpness, etc.

The quantity, quality and maximum length of vectors is highly dependent on the Diclonius. In general, the average number of vectors of a Diclonius is four, while their average length variation is between three and five meters. However, there are exceptional cases: Diclonius Omen Version 13 has a preposterously-high vector range of 30 meters, while Prisma Version 25 has the highest-recorded vector count at 16 vectors. Finally, despite possessing no reliable or consistent methods to gauge effective vector strength (both tensile and psionic), GARNET objectively regarded Aurora Version 24's vectors as the most destructive--capable of severing other vectors and, in one instance, cripplingly warp an Adamantium-alloy reinforced door.

Despite being psychokinetic phenomena, vectors are inherently tied to a Diclonius' senses. Diclonii receive some form of tactile feedback from vectors, allowing a rudimentary but nonetheless accurate somatosensory (sense of touch) through vectors, capable of distinguishing nuances such as texture and shape. It is however not a true sense of touch: for a Diclonius, tactile stimuli is directly interpreted as information rather than sensation. For example, a Diclonius holding a red-hot piece of coal with one of their vectors will be able to determine its size, shape and topology without actually experiencing any sensation of "texture" or "heat", and much less pain. Thermoreception is much more crudely interpreted in this regard, with the average Diclonius being often unable to distinguish temperature gradients which would be glaringly obvious to standard senses, such as between placing a vector above an open flame and submerging it in molten metal. Vectors are also tied to a Diclonius' proprioception; that is, a Diclonius will always intuitively know the relative position and orientation of their own vectors much like they do with their own limbs.

Vectors possess latent safeguards against accidental, unintentional self-harm. An ostensibly subconscious reflex linked to vectors is responsible for instantly dissipating or phasing out vectors into partial intangibility instants before coming into contact with the Diclonius' body, even if the Diclonius has demonstrated no skill in rapid vector dissipation or attuning into its index of tangibility. As a result, it is virtually impossible for a Diclonius to accidentally harm themselves with one of their vectors even if they are consciously aware of the danger, thus massively reducing the risk of Diclonii making active use of their own vectors. This reflex is however not absolute and may be temporarily overcome, but it requires a conscious, actively sustained effort in part of the Diclonius in order to properly suppress it. Therefore, any successful attempt at self-harm using vectors will be exclusively intentional in nature.

Because of their decidedly anomalous nature, vectors are categorized as Soul Phantasms, although they'd be more accurately expressed as highly specialized Psionic manifestations.

Silpelit

A Silpelit is the hybrid offspring of a Diclonius and any another non-therian humanoid, ideally a human. Silpelits are considered "carriers" of Diclonius traits, namely the extremely unique configuration in the Kernel of their Souls. However, Silpelits are incapable of utilizing vectors due to almagenetic shuffling, and are not considered to possess the Soul Phantasm. Silpelits also retain some of the augmentations to the Mind Component a Diclonius has, although with notably lessened effects; for example, they are only moderately resistant to hostile Psionic effects.

Due to the extremely dominant genetics of Diclonii, it is impossible for the offspring of a Diclonius and a compatible humanoid to be anything other than a Silpelit. Similarly, the offspring of two Diclonii is never a Silpelit.

Trivia

  • Obvious Elfen Lied tribute is obvious.
  • With the exception of Omen Version 13, all of the surviving Diclonii of the DEICLONOS Project have names that are six letters long.
