Development Chat

Morning of Saturday, April 19th, 2014. Discussing concepts surrounding the Elemental Spectrum, as well as "extraspectral" elements.

  • [02:44:39] <Eebit> Elemental Spectrum Manaverse page using Gigaesthetics
  • [02:44:41] <Eebit> ??
  • [02:44:56] <Shadow> yes pls?
  • [02:45:05] <Shadow> Like, the /actual/ spectrum
  • [02:45:07] <Eebit> we should do the thing
  • [02:45:16] <Shadow> how begin
  • [02:45:23] <Eebit> explosions
  • [02:45:27] <Eebit> probably
  • [02:45:45] <Eebit> press alt + f4 to create a perfect page
  • [02:47:18] <Shadow> no pls
  • [02:47:52] <Shadow> But yeah what do you have in mind for the page?
  • [02:47:58] <Shadow> I think this is something we could work together
  • [02:48:06] <Shadow> seeing as literally nobody wants to contribute to these sort of things
  • [02:49:10] <Eebit> I know it needs to have the table that Giga had for Rokans, or something akin to that
  • [02:49:54] <Shadow> Yeah, definitely.
  • [02:51:27] <Eebit> But really, apart from that, I don't know the major functions of the Elemental Spectrum, nor how it resonates with Mana
  • [02:51:40] <Eebit> Beyond what you had emailed Zio towards the start of his mission
  • [02:55:03] <Shadow> Basically the elemental spectrum is the "wavelength" that categorizes the elements. 7 colors + black/gray/white
  • [02:56:14] <Eebit> Okay, what are the functions? How does an individual tap into it and combine it with Mana?
  • [03:01:39] <Shadow> Well. The process of changing Mana into elemental forms is basically /generating/ the wavelength as opposed to tap into an always-existing-one. Elementally-neutral Mana doesn't have a wavelength to begin with (or rather, a wavelength without oscillation), but it can be "shifted" into elemental forms
  • [03:02:22] <Eebit> So can elements be artificially produced?
  • [03:02:26] <Shadow> That's why the process of elementalizing Mana in function to a specific element is called [Element]shifting, such as Watershifting, Darkshifting, Nullshifting, etc.
  • [03:03:54] <Shadow> That's the thing. The "spectrum" is only a loop of red through blue with "primordial" elements (Light/Dark/Arcane) set apart, so nobody can just come in and try to create a new wavelength. It doesn't work that way. However, elements CAN be artificially produced; they exist outside of the spectrum
  • [03:04:03] <Shadow> red through purple oops
  • [03:05:13] <Eebit> Okay, interesting
  • [03:05:15] <Shadow> Basically, if there is someone with an exceptionally strong affinity to a concept, it can pretty much be turned into a "extraspectral" element
  • [03:05:37] <Shadow> The most prominent thing that comes to mind is Sound, but I'm sure there's more
  • [03:05:45] <Eebit> So how does one 'formalize,' so to speak, an extraspectral element?
  • [03:07:44] <Shadow> They are not "real" elements, per se, so it doesn't normally matter if a person comes in and "defines" an extraspectral element for their magic somewhere. Since they are artificial, by nature they shouldn't be able to susbtantially change the way reality operates
  • [03:08:08] <Shadow> Sound is still sound even if someone categorizes "sound" as an element for their magic
  • [03:08:21] <Shadow> They just give a "higher purpose" so to speak, but only on a local scope
  • [03:09:13] <Eebit> That (artificial/extraspectral) should be a subheading of this page for sure
  • [03:13:04] <Shadow> Yeah. Now that the Manaverse is up and running, I've also really got to formalize / standarize terms and shit
  • [03:13:49] <Eebit> T'would certainly be helpful
  • [03:14:08] <Eebit> Especially since you are the core creator of a lot of the concepts
  • [03:14:25] <Shadow> Though so far, outside of Mana Theory, it hasn't really come to be relevant
  • [03:14:33] <Shadow> And yeah
  • [03:16:15] <Eebit> Elemental Spectrum would just be a nice thing to have up and around
  • [03:16:31] <Eebit> It'll be helpful when we start to transition away from planets and into characters
  • [03:21:39] <Shadow> More than that, just overall archiving of concepts, I suppose
  • [03:22:11] <Eebit> Formalizing and archiving. At least this way, everyone gets to be on the same page regarding the fundamental laws that we typically adhere to in RPs

Possibly something like that. Mystery section because I'm sure it'd need it. --Lord X-Giga-X (talk) 21:01, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Version 0.1.2, now with correct elements. --Lord X-Giga-X (talk) 04:29, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Version 0.2.1 , although I don't really know what I'm doing with this at this point. Setup suggestions, anyone? --Lord X-Giga-X (talk) 22:06, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
